Sail Away With Me, Honey

Onto one of the rainiest weddings I think I have ever seen in my time as a wedding photographer and yet it was also one of the most enjoyable weddings I have ever done because Kelly & Steve were so chill about it and we still managed to have an AMAZING DAY!

Let me start by saying that this couple is the sweetest. We met at Brick & Bourbon in Stillwater and we had such a great time getting to know each other. These two met through their kids in school and have been together for years. Steve had to ask her a couple of times, but she finally gave in and said YES to tying the knot and blending their two families into one!

We started the day off with the girls getting ready at the AmericInn in Stillwater where we got some gorgeous details shots and photographed the STUNNING bride getting into her wedding dress surrounded by her loved ones.

We then met the groom and his guys in downtown Stillwater by Brick & Bourbon and took group photos in his friend’s modern studio apartment, which turned out to be SO COOL! We managed to sneak outside between rain showers for some shots before heading to their venue - the Empress - for some more photos between, yes, more rain showers.

The ceremony started a bit late in order to accommodate Mother Nature so the couple could have their dream ceremony on the top deck of the boat. The staff was so accommodating and kept drying off chairs and coordinating with the couple to make sure everything went off without a hitch. We managed to find the only 20 minutes of no rain for their ceremony just in time before the skies opened up and we all rushed inside for a night of celebrating!

Some highlights from the evening:

  • Kelly surprised Steve with his dream guitar (which he later used to serenade her on the top deck of the boat after the rain finally let up)

  • Their son gave a heartfelt speech about finally blending the two families (with lots of hugs to his siblings)

  • They shared a very heartfelt first dance together

  • We ended the night with a bubble exit and more dancing!

It was a truly wonderful day and I am feeling so blessed to have been asked to capture their special day. You can view their full gallery here —>
